Candace Shiver is an attorney who currently serves under Presidential Appointment as Special Advisor to the National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce.  For nearly five years, Candace practiced business litigation and employment law at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP in Columbia, South Carolina.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, at which time she was selected into membership of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.  After college, Candace went on to earn her Juris Doctor Degree from Duke University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina.

Candace has an honest passion for public service.  She is an active member of the Brookland Baptist Church of West Columbia, South Carolina, where her father has served as pastor for over 40 years.  She has served on the Boards of various nonprofit organizations including the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, the South Carolina Bar Foundation, the Oliver Gospel Mission, the Renaissance Foundation, and the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation. 

In May 2010, Candace was appointed by Columbia Mayor-Elect Steve Benjamin to the Regionalism and Intergovernmental Relations Committee of the Mayor-Elect's Transition Team.  In January 2011, she was named to The State newspaper's "20 under 40" list of young achievers. In August 2011, Candace served as an American delegate at the American Council on Germany's XXXIII Young Leaders Conference in Munich and Berlin, Germany, where she engaged in pertinent policy discussions and planning to help strengthen transatlantic relations.

One of the motivations for her desire to help establish Candace Girls was her strong belief in the importance of education. Candace believes that knowledge is essential to our growth and development as a people, and Candace is dedicated to helping serve the needs of Candace Girls.
